Information on Brush Dump and Compost Site

  • Resolution Adopting Brush Dump and Compost Policy
  • The Brush Dump and Compost Site is located north of the Cedar River bridge at the second entrance to the right.

  • Hours are generally from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM

  • The site may be closed due to flooding when the river level is high.

  • The compost that is available at the brush dump is free for the residents of the City of Vinton and Benton County. Up to one large load (pickup or dump truck) per person/business per day.

Information on Yard Waste

  • Open burning dates - First 3 Saturdays in May and the last 4 Saturdays in October from 6:00AM to 6:00PM

  • The City crews are not responsible for picking up private property yard waste and tree branches.  The City Crews pickup after storms to help out, but it is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain their yards and trees.

Information on Mosquito Spraying

  • Mosquito spraying takes place during the summer months on Monday and Thursday evening or early morning, weather permitting (no rain, little wind) Tuesdays and Fridays are alternate days.
  • The City uses a spray that kills the mosquitoes on contact--cannot kill those that do not come into contact with spray.

Information on Tree Planting

Prohibited Trees.  No person shall plant in any street right-of-way any fruit-bearing tree or any tree of the kinds commonly known as cottonwood, poplar, box elder, Chinese elm, evergreen, willow, black walnut, or austree. Anyone planting trees in the city right-of-way should contact City Hall or the Street Department to find out planting restrictions. Chapter 142.02 of the Vinton City Code.
